IISER Mohali offers 5-year integrated master's course

What: Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) offers admission to five-year Integrated Master (MS) Course

Details:

~ The Government of India, through the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), has created two Science Institutes, patterned after the Indian Institute of Science ( IISc ), Bangalore, in terms of high quality research in basic sciences, but with additional education programme in the form of an integrated five year Masters curriculum following class XII of our school system ( or its equivalent ).

~ In addition to Kolkata and Pune IISERs which have been in existence since July 2006, one more IISER in Mohali (near Chandigarh ) is expected to commence academic session from July 2007. Each IISER is an autonomous degree awarding Institution. The central theme of IISERs is to integrate education with research so that undergraduate and postgraduate teachings as well as doctoral and post doctoral research works are carried out in symbiosis. Each IISER will admit up to 100 students in the academic session beginning in July 2007. For further details of IISER, please visit www.iiserkol.ac.in / www.iiserpune.ac.in.

~ Only those students who qualify in one of the following examinations will be eligible for consideration for admittance to the First year of the 5-year integrated Masters program at the above three IISERs.

1) Kishore Vaigyanic Protsahan Yojna ( KVPY ) (www.iisc.ernet.in/kvpy)

2) Stage II -- Indian National Olympiad Examination (www.hbcse.tifr.res.in/olympiads)

3) IIT JEE -- 2008 (those who figure in regular and extended merit lists)

~ Students wishing to pursue Science as a career with scientific research and teaching and have passed (10+2) or equivalent qualifying examination in 2007 or will be appearing in 2008 may apply in plain paper giving the following information: Name, address for correspondence, phone no, e-mail address, name and address and telephone no. of school attaching a class X mark-sheet, parent's name, name of the qualifying examination ( "KVPY-2008" or "Olympiad-2008" or "IIT JEE-2008" with roll no / registration no). The application should be mailed to the contact below.

~ The name of the examination ("KVPY-2007"/2008" / "Olympiad-2008"/ "IIT JEE-2008") is to be mentioned in the envelope.

~ Last date for receiving application is June 10, 2008.

~ Counseling for admission from KVPY SA-2007, SB+2 (2008) and Olympiad-2008 will be held on June 14, 2008 Saturday at 09:30 hrs.

~ Counseling for admission from IIT JEE- 2008 will be held on July 1, 2008 Tuesday at 09:30 hrs at all IISERs. All applicants are advised to visit the web sites www.iiserkol.ac.in/, www.iiserpune.ac.in/ or www.iisermohali.ac.in/
