• During his knock of 46 Brian Lara became the second highest run-getter for the West Indies in the World Cup. He went past Desmond Haynes's tally of 854 runs (in 25 matches). Lara, who now has 872 runs in 22 matches, is behind Viv Richards's run aggregate of 1013 (in 23 matches).
• The 30-ball fifty by Ricardo Powell was by far the fastest by any West Indian batsman in the World Cup and the quickest recorded 50 as yet in the 2003 tournament. Lara, during his knock of 111 against South Africa at Karachi on 11-3-1996, had reached his fifty in 45 balls.
• Powell became the first West Indian batsman to register a fifty while batting at number seven in the World Cup. The previous highest was the unbeaten 34 by Carl Hooper, against India at Wellington on 10-3-1992. Keith Boyce had also scored a 34 against Australia in the Lord's final on 21-6-1975 at number seven.
• Powell also becomes the first batsman in LOIs to record a score of 50 while batting at number seven, against Bangladesh. The unbeaten 49 by Pakistani Abdul Razzaq at Dhaka on 24-1-2002 was the previous highest.
• For the record, the highest score by a number seven at this venue before this match was the 39 by South African Shaun Pollock on 7-10-2001.
• Left arm pace bowler Manjural Islam became the first Bangladeshi bowler to capture three wickets in a LOI match against West Indies. The previous best was the 2-45 by left-arm spinner Enamul Hoque at Dhaka on 9-10-1999. 
• Manjural also becomes the only second Bangladeshi after Khaled Mahmud (3-31 v Pakistan at Northampton on 31-5-1999) to take a three-wicket haul in the World Cup.
• This was the first time in seven matches that Bangladesh bowlers were able to restrict the Windies to a score of less than 250 runs.
• This was the fifth World Cup match to be declared as a 'no-result". The India-Sri Lanka match at Mackay on 28-2-1992; the England-Pakistan match at Adelaide on 1-3-1992; the Zimbabwe-Kenya match at Patna on  26-2-1996 and the New Zealand-Zimbabwe match at Leeds on 6-6-1999 were the other World Cup encounters to declared as 'no-result'.
• Despite the 'no-result' match, Bangladesh extended its dubious record of "no-win" match sequence to 29, which includes 27 losses and 2 no-results!
• This was the only second 'no-result' match involving Bangladesh, who were playing their 64th LOI match, while this was the West Indies' 11th 'no-result' match in 463 LOI matches.
