Kenyan captain Steve Tikolo has chosen his team's greatest moment to hit out at his country's cricket establishment saying it needs a revamp as it does not have the "sport's best interests at heart".

Tournament minnows Kenya made history by qualifying for the Super Sixes with a 32-run victory over Bangladesh. No side without Test status has previously got beyond the first round.

But Tikolo said a revamp of the Kenya Cricket Association's leadership was urgently required if Kenya's impressive achievement at the World Cup was to be translated into long-term success.

"Right now, you can pick your team of 15 only from Nairobi, and that poses problems of depth," said Tikolo.

"The game has to spread across the whole country for us to start seeing a proper transformation, and that will partly require transforming the KCA.

"Some of KCA's leaders have been there for more than a decade. Some do not respect the players and this causes tension in the team. Some no longer have the sport's best interests at heart and are satisfied with a Nairobi circuit," he said.

Tikolo said Kenyan Sports Minister Najib Balala had promised to meet Kenya's team immediately after the World Cup to discuss the government's plan of action to support the game in the country.

"We expect much from this new government," he said while alleging that the administration of former President Danielarap Moi, ousted in general elections in December, had done little to help develop cricket or any other sport in Kenya.

"What we will ask (from the new government) is a programme to support cricket in all the regions."

Kenya's national team also needed an official sponsor, Tikolo said.

"You will see from our shirts that there is no sponsor. We appeal to businesses to come to our rescue. We believe we have shown that we are worth a brand.

"The game requires enormous resources and we are doing our best without adequate financial back-up. It is time for someone, a big company, to step forward and be associated with our success," he said.
